QAA to launch Advice & Guidance chapters at special online events

Date: June 9 - 2025

Last summer we published the new edition of the UK Quality Code – the first full new edition of the Code since 2018 – and in July we'll be publishing the first three chapters of Advice and Guidance for the 2024 Code, written in collaboration with experts from across the sector.

We'll be launching these three chapters at a special series of online events which will take place on 16 and 17 July.

Dr Andy Smith, Quality & Standards Manager at QAA, will introduce each event, with our Quality & Standards Specialists Ruth Burchell and Si Bullock on hand to detail some of the key features of each chapter.

On Wednesday 16 July (14.00-15.30), we'll be starting off with the chapter on 'Operating partnerships with other organisations'.

Each event will include practitioner perspectives on the use of the advice and guidance from expert guest speakers. Our opening event will feature Professor Martin Lockett (Professor of Strategic Management at Nottingham University Business School, China) and Dr Marta Vizcaya Echano (HE Partnerships and Quality and Enhancement Specialist at Ravensbourne University London).

The following day (Thursday 17 July, 10.00-11.30), we'll be looking at 'Taking a strategic approach to managing quality and standards' – in the company of Laura Witt (Assistant Registrar for Extended Learning at Imperial College London), Graham Garforth (Head of Academic Quality & Standards at The Open University), Stephen Bunbury (Senior Lecturer at the University of Westminster) and Professor Chris Maguire (Clerk to the Board at the University of Law).

And – also that day – we'll be concluding our series of online launch events by considering the principle of 'Engaging students as partners' (Thursday 17 July, 14.00-15.30). We'll be joined on this occasion by Maureen McLaughlin (Director of School Operations at the University of Manchester's School of Medicine, University of Manchester, and Chair of the Quality Strategy Network), Professor Phil Cardew (Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at Leeds Becket University) and Damien Corridan (Policy and Engagement Manager SU Voice at Queen’s Students’ Union).

Registration is free and open to all. We very much hope you'll join us!
