Revised Access to Higher Education Diploma Subject Descriptor for Medicine 2021
Publication date: 30 Jul 2025
Subject Descriptors define the minimum requirement of content for a Diploma that is designed and publicly claims to provide the preparation needed for progression to undergraduate study.
Below you will find the Subject Descriptors for Medicine, and Nursing and Health Professions.
Please note that the Subject Descriptor for Medicine was updated in 2025 to reflect changes to the Recognition Scheme. The changes were not substantive but were necessary to align language with that used within the updated licensing and monitoring arrangements for AVAs. If you are unsure which version relates to your Diploma, please contact your AVA or QAA for guidance.
You might also find it helpful to refer to the Access to HE Diploma Specification, which presents the generic requirements for the achievement of the Access to Diploma.
