QAA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Mauritius.
The MoU is intended to support cooperation between the two agencies and to reduce the need for the local accreditation of recognised UK higher education institutions in Mauritius.
It also promotes opportunities for knowledge exchange, staff development, and collaboration in various areas of shared interest, including the quality enhancement of transnational education.
Around 3,000 students in Mauritius are registered with UK-based higher education providers, through collaborative provision, partnerships and distance learning arrangements with various British universities, as well as the Mauritius campus of Middlesex University.
The HEC was established in 2020 and serves as the regulatory body for tertiary education in Mauritius. The MoU was signed during the Education World Forum in London on 19 May.
"It's very exciting to have established this agreement with the Higher Education Commission of Mauritius," said Shannon Stowers, Head of International Policy and Engagement at QAA. "We very much look forward to developing opportunities for cooperation with our colleagues in the HEC and to supporting collaboration and partnership between Mauritius and the UK."
