QAA renews Indonesian MoU

Date: March 11 - 2024

QAA's Director of International & Professional Services Eduardo Ramos visited Jakarta and Bandung in Indonesia in early March as part of the Agency's strategic engagement with stakeholders in the country.

Eduardo met with the CEO of Indonesia's Board of National Accreditation for Higher Education (BAN-PT), Professor Dr Ari Purbayanto, who signed the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two agencies.

Professor Ari Purbayanto said: 'I am delighted to renew our close collaboration with QAA at a particularly exciting time for higher education in Indonesia, as we implement reforms that will make the country more attractive for bilateral co-operation with UK universities.'

The new agreement provides a framework for collaboration between QAA and BAN-PT for the next five years.

BAN-PT has been operating since 1994 as the sole national independent agency that accredits higher education in Indonesia. The MoU brings QAA and BAN-PT together to advise on quality assurance and enhancement practices that affect transnational education, collaborate to support the development of transnational education arrangements in Indonesia, and share best practice in higher education and quality assurance.

Eduardo also met with the leadership team of six higher education institutions, including large public universities, private universities and faith-based universities: Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, BINUS University, Institut Teknologi Bandung, Universitas Katolik Parahyangan, Universitas Padjadjaran, Telkom University and Universitas Terbuka.

'With over 4,000 higher education providers and a youthful and entrepreneurial population, Indonesia presents unprecedented opportunities for equitable partnerships to UK higher education institutions,' Eduardo said. 'The recent announcement of the opening of the first campus of a UK university in Bandung – Lancaster University in partnership with Deakin University – is the latest sign of this enhanced cooperation.'

QAA would like to express its gratitude to the British Council Indonesia team, and particularly to Muhaimin Syamsuddin, Head of Education, Puti Medina Indasari, Senior Programmes Manager and Linda Djayusman, Programme Manager, for their support in making this visit a success.
