QAA publishes new TNE reports

Date: October 15 - 2025

QAA's scheme for the Quality Evaluation and Enhancement of UK Transnational Higher Education (QE-TNE) has published a set of three new visit reports on UK TNE provision in South Asia, East Asia and the Middle East.

Commissioned by Universities UK and GuildHE, the QE-TNE Scheme has been designed to give participating institutions insights into the challenges facing transnational provision and the best-practice approaches developed by providers, in order to promote the quality, reputation and sustainability of UK TNE worldwide. More than 70 providers across the UK higher education sector now participate in the Scheme.

The new reports – which are now available in full to the Scheme's participating institutions via our Membership Resources site – look at the collaborations between the University of Glasgow and the University of Electronic and Science Technology of China, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Gulf College in Oman, and Queen Margaret University and the ITM Institute of Hospitality Management in India.

The reports were compiled by teams of independent peer and student reviewers, supported by QAA.

The reports highlight effective practices in such areas as industry engagement, authentic assessment, staff development, continuous improvement, and partnership working, organisationally, professionally and pedagogically. They also identify areas for ongoing enhancement in relation to various aspects of student engagement in academic communities, support services, representation mechanisms and governance arrangements.

Over the course of the current academic year, the Scheme is scheduled to go on to focus upon UK TNE activities in Indonesia, Nigeria and Nepal.

At the same time, QAA is in the process of consulting stakeholders on plans for the redesign of the QE-TNE Scheme, to ensure its continuing relevance to the challenges and opportunities of this increasingly important area of our sector. You can read more about these plans in recent UUKi blog by Shannon Stowers, QAA's Head of International Policy & Engagement.

Shannon says: "The new iteration of the scheme aims to meet the evolving needs of UK TNE, building upon our enhancement-focused approach to demonstrate the active work the UK sector undertakes to ensure the quality of its TNE provision, providing reassurance for its key stakeholders – including governments, providers, partners, employers, the public and of course the students themselves."
