QAA publishes Ghana report

QAA has published a Country Report on Ghana, available exclusively to our International Insights Members.

With 57 per cent of it population of 35 million people younger than 25, Ghana has a diverse tertiary education system, with 54 per cent of provision delivered by public institutions. Ghana's HEIs attract a significant number of international students, 97 per cent of whom come from other African countries.

The Ghanaian Ministry of Education’s Education Strategic Plan 2018–2030 aims to expand tertiary participant to 40 per cent of secondary school leavers. In 2023, 22 per cent of school leavers enrolled in tertiary education within five years, up from 16 per cent in 2018.

In 2023, 45 UK higher education institutions were active in Ghana, including branch campuses, franchise programmes and distance learning – with postgraduate provision accounting for 73 per cent of UK TNE enrolment.

Our Country Report considers the political, economic and diplomatic contexts of Ghana and its relationship with the UK. It considers key stakeholders and policies as it charts the nation's higher education landscape, exploring its types of providers and entry processes, its qualifications framework and quality protocols, and its uses of English as a language of instruction.

It also includes an extensive look at transnational education in Ghana, considering the major TNE players, the quality assurance and regulatory environment, modes of learning and related student data.
