A new resource, exclusive to participants in QAA's Quality Evaluation and Enhancement of UK Transnational Education – better known as QE-TNE – scheme, offers insights into TNE students' access to UK provider resources and services.
Originally commissioned by Universities UK and GuildHE, the QE-TNE scheme has been designed to give participating institutions insights into the challenges facing transnational provision and the best-practice approaches developed by providers, in order to promote the quality, reputation and sustainability of UK TNE worldwide. More than 70 providers across the UK higher education sector now participate in the scheme.
Our new report has been based on learning gained from the scheme's visits and cases studies completed over the past four years – principally through evidence supplied by participating institutions, together with meetings with students and colleagues.
The report observes that strategies for resources and services constitute a key factor in "ensuring the comparability of TNE students’ experience".
It examines the complexities and challenges of approaches to the sharing of learning resources, and observes a range of approaches, responses and degrees of engagement, as well as highlighting effective practices to promote access to digital libraries and databases.
It goes on to consider transnational students' access to virtual learning environments and IT support services, noting how the increased resourcing of these areas since the pandemic has appreciably enhanced such provision.
With reference to examples from China, Cyprus, Germany, Sri Lanka and Vietnam, it also looks at approaches to the provision of wellbeing, mental health and disability support, as well as employability initiatives and careers services.
The full report is available to QE-TNE participants in the Membership Resources area of our website.
