Ajman University in the United Arab Emirates has successfully completed its International Quality Review (IQR) and has been awarded global quality accreditation by QAA.
IQR comprises a rigorous process which benchmarks global higher education institutions against international quality assurance standards set out in Part 1 of the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
The review visit was conducted on 23 June - 8 July 2025 by a team of three independent reviewers (including a student reviewer) appointed by QAA. The team concluded that Ajman University meets the standards for International Quality Review and may therefore be granted QAA's global accreditation.
Ajman University is a private institution situated in the Emirate of Ajman in the United Arab Emirates. It was founded in 1988 and obtained its license by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in 1994 under its previous name of Ajman University of Science and Technology. Its name was changed to Ajman University in October 2016.
The IQR report made no recommendations for enhancement and identified one area of good practice. This highlighted the university's structured feedback mechanisms, which enable systematic assessment and continuous improvement of academic programmes – to ensure that both current market requirements and graduate employment outcomes inform programme development and enhancement decisions.
Dr Karim Seghir, Chancellor of Ajman University, said: 'The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) recently conducted an International Quality Review of Ajman University for renewal of its accreditation. The QAA review team followed a very systematic, comprehensive, and evidence-based review procedure to determine the extent to which Ajman University meets the 10 European Standards and Guidelines. The review team has concluded that Ajman University meets all 10 European Standards and Guidelines. Furthermore, the review team did not set any conditions, and made no recommendations to Ajman University for improvement/enhancement. It also recognised the structured feedback mechanisms at Ajman University, which enable systematic assessment and continuous improvement, as a good practice.'
Piers Wall, QAA’s Head of International Quality Assurance and Enhancement, added: 'QAA is pleased to congratulate Ajman University on its successful completion of its International Quality Review. We have very much enjoyed working with our colleagues in the United Arab Emirates, and we look forward to collaborating with them in the future.'
By securing IQR accreditation from QAA, institutions can clearly highlight their quality and standards internationally, and more easily start dialogues with institutions beyond their own regions.
