Generative AI is artificial intelligence capable of generating text, images, or other media, using generative models. Generative AI models learn the patterns and structure of the initial data they contain and then generate new data that has similar characteristics.

The rise of Generative AI has far reaching implications for learning and teaching in higher education for example changing the way higher education is delivered and assessed, perhaps changing the relationship we have with our students and even affecting the value we place on academic awards. Alongside the challenges, there are definite opportunities to enhance what we do and how we do it.
