Monday 19 June - Thursday 29 June 2023

Our June online 'Quality in Practice: Quality Management' professional development course will be held between Monday 19 and Thursday 29 June 2023. This virtual course is aimed at individuals who have worked in the field of quality assurance and/or enhancement for at least a couple of years (perhaps operating at an officer level or as a team leader). The course will challenge participants to consider how approaches to quality management might evolve, and support them in developing practical techniques across the key elements of higher education quality assurance and enhancement.

From Monday 19 June, participants will access online activities and pre-recorded presentations in their own time prior to attending two 'live' sessions that are scheduled for:

  • Thursday 22 June, 14.00-16.00
  • Thursday 29 June, 14.00-15.00

The content includes:

  • Challenges and debates in the delivery of quality assurance and enhancement
  • Quality assuring and enhancing higher education: case study

Places are limited and are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

The site will remain open until Thursday 6 July to allow continued access to the resources. If you have any particular needs that might impact on your ability to engage with the materials, please contact us for a conversation on how we can best support you.

Is this course for me?

This course is designed for quality practitioners with some experience at officer/team leader level or in a more senior quality management-related role within the higher education sector. Many – but certainly not all –participants will have joined Introduction to Quality in the past. In those cases, we normally advise a minimum of twelve months before enrolling on Quality in Practice: Quality Management. If you have not yet gained the type of experience outlined above, please view our Introduction to Quality course. If you are not sure which of our courses is the best one for you, please contact us for advice on membership@qaa.ac.uk.

What is the commitment for this course?

To participate, you must be available for the full duration of the two live sessions and be able to commit three to five hours to complete asynchronous activities which include pre-recorded presentations, reading and discussion posts. Please see the outline programme which will help you plan your time during the course.

There is also an expectation that those who join the course will engage fully in the activities and the live sessions. Even more than our Introduction to Quality course, Quality in Practice: Quality Management relies on participants engaging with each other and contributing their thoughts and reflections to explore sector challenges from a range of perspectives. As such, we expect all participants to work within the supportive and collaborative ethos of the course, and respect the diverse backgrounds and experience of other participants.

Is there a reserve or waiting list if the course is full?

Yes, once we have filled all the places on the course, we start a waiting list so please contact us if you would like to be added to it. All of our professional development courses are extremely popular so it is important that participants let us know if they are no longer able to use their place. This is particularly important if there is someone else from your provider on the waiting list as they will not normally be offered a place if there is already a member of the provider registered for the course.
