QAA UK signs Letter of Intent with QAA Mauritius

Date: June 3 - 2025
Following the signing last month of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Mauritius Higher Education Commission, The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (UK) has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the Quality Assurance Authority Mauritius.

Established under the Higher Education Act 2017, QAA Mauritius became operational in January 2020. It works to "promote, maintain and enhance quality assurance of higher education in line with international high-quality standards in higher education through appropriate quality assurance mechanisms".

With a population of around one and a quarter million people, the Republic of Mauritius lies in the Indian Ocean, more than 1,000 miles off the coast of south-eastern Africa.

Around 3,000 students in Mauritius are registered with UK-based higher education providers, through collaborative provision, partnerships and distance learning arrangements with various British universities, as well as the Mauritius campus of Middlesex University.

Our new LoI with QAA Mauritius is designed to promote opportunities for cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two agencies, and, combined with the MoU with the HEC, provides a comprehensive framework for collaboration with Mauritius.

"The recent agreement between the governments of the UK and Mauritius has emphasised the importance of our two island nations to each other," said Shannon Stowers, Head of International Policy and Engagement at QAA. "And our own agreements with these key organisations underline the mutual benefits for higher education which collaborations between our countries may bring."
