New Country Report published: Uzbekistan

Date: February 22 - 2024

QAA has published a report on Uzbekistan's higher education sector and UK transnational education (TNE) market, exclusively for our International Insights Members.

The report explores current policy and educational developments in the country.

Uzbekistan’s Development Strategy for 2022-26 includes plans to increase participation in higher education, and to develop investment and internationalisation. It specifically aims to:

  • increase the coverage of higher education by 250,000 students, up to 50% of the eligible population
  • double the number of people studying at prestigious foreign universities
  • grow its number of non-governmental higher education institutions to at least 50
  • build a campus for 20,000 students in Samarqand, to house branches of at least four overseas universities.

Overall, its higher education reforms tend to centre on granting autonomy to institutions in order to encourage international engagement, with the intention that Uzbekistan should become an educational hub for Central Asia.

QAA's comprehensive new report explains in detail the structures and strategies underpinning Uzbekistan's higher education system, as well opportunities for public-private partnerships in the country. The report also looks at key areas such as skills needs, quality frameworks and the major players in transnational partnerships in Uzbekistan.

The report is part of QAA's series of Country Reports, offering insights into key countries and regions for UK TNE for QAA International Insights Members. We publish these Country Reports to give universities and colleges in the UK contextual information about strong and growing markets for UK TNE, to help them to develop their international operations and enhance their TNE capabilities.
