About this subject

""

Veterinary Nursing is a science-based degree with a strong vocational focus aimed at improving the health and welfare of animals, while caring for animals in a veterinary environment. It enables graduates to be ready to undertake the role and achieve the academic requirements needed to apply to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

Graduates in Veterinary Nursing will develop skills, competencies and qualities of professionalism, critical independent thought, and decision-making in complex and unpredictable circumstances. These graduates will meet the evolving needs of the veterinary nursing profession in a rapidly changing profession in which lifelong learning plays an essential role.

Catherine Phillips - Chair of the Advisory Group
Head of Department Veterinary Nursing, Hartpury University

Veterinary Nursing is a growing profession; this revised statement is essential in meeting the needs of students and the future development of the profession by providing a framework to support the development of skills up to advanced practitioner level. The Statement has been developed by a diverse and dedicated advisory group made up of veterinary professionals including students, academics, practitioners and representatives of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons. We hope that these standards will continue to support future graduates to have sustainable and fulfilling careers in an ever-evolving profession.
