About this subject

""

This group of subjects encapsulates the journey ‘from field to fork’, with the inclusion of allied land-based areas, including rural environmental sciences, animal studies, forestry, and amenity horticulture. Graduates from these qualifications make a significant contribution to a wide range of sectors including industry, government, non-governmental organisations and education. They make evidence-informed decisions, applying theory to practice effectively at every level, from global and national policy through to practical measures and professional practice at a local level. Graduates are equipped to utilise their knowledge and skills to enhance practice, utilising highly effective communication and implementation strategies.

The 2024 edition of the Statement aims to encompass the very broad areas under one statement, while including the important cross-cutting themes of sustainability, employability and equality, diversity and inclusivity. The subject groupings allow for deeper depth in the areas of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry, Rural Environmental Sciences, Animal Studies and Food Science, Food Technology, Human Nutrition and Consumer Science. The Statement has received wide ranging support from the associated communities. I hope that it will act as a valuable framework for developing high-quality degree courses that deliver graduates equipped with the necessary skills to address the challenges of tomorrow.
