New TNE guides focus on Nigeria and Indonesia

Members of QAA's TNE Scheme can now access our new Country Guides to Nigeria and Indonesia.

With the fourth largest economy in Africa, the Federal Republic of Nigeria has around two million students enrolled at more than 300 private, federal and state universities. The nation hosts the second highest number of TNE students in Africa, after Egypt, with three UK providers accounting for more than 70 per cent of its transnational provision. Our Nigeria report charts its HE and TNE landscapes, and considers the nine priority areas of its National Development Plan which represent gateways of opportunity for transnational education. It explores Nigeria's approaches to TNE and the prevalent TNE models in the country, as well as examining guidelines and expectations for that provision.

The fourth most populous country in the world, Indonesia has a growing youth demographic. Its National Medium-Term Development Plan identifies 'the need to improve national talent readiness' and recognises the importance of 'institutional reforms in research and education'. Indonesia has one of the largest HE systems in the world, with more than 9 million students studying at over 4,400 higher education institutions. Our Indonesia report details its types of HEIs, explains its qualification framework, quality assurance mechanisms and regulatory structures, and considers its transnational provision, the UK's presence in its TNE market, the opportunities and risks involved, and its recognition of UK qualifications.

The UK TNE Quality Scheme was formally commissioned by Universities UK, GuildHE and Independent HE, and is supported by University Alliance and MillionPlus. The Department for Education in England supports the scheme, and the Scottish Funding Council, Medr and the Department for the Economy Northern Ireland have also endorsed the scheme.
