Funded by Medr, Wales's Commission for Tertiary Education and Research, a joint project between QAA Cymru and Estyn, the education and training inspectorate for Wales, has launched a new website to support providers in strengthening effective self-evaluation in their educational practice.
This new practical tool identifies a set of key principles which underpin self-evaluation and showcases effective approaches used by tertiary education providers to develop and embed a strong culture of self-evaluation and continuous improvement.
The aim of the project is to drive and enable performance at all levels across tertiary education in Wales, while providing opportunities for shared professional learning between Estyn and QAA.
Maureen McLaughlin, Head of Wales, Northern Ireland and Educational Oversight at QAA, said: "Our collaboration with Estyn on this project has been an exciting and productive opportunity to share and learn from effective practice across Wales's tertiary sector. We very much hope that this will offer a valuable resource to promote and strengthen the evaluation and enhancement of provision across our entire sector here in Wales – and will also be of interest and use to our colleagues across the UK and beyond."
Estyn's Dr Steve Bell, Her Majesty's Inspector for Education and Training in Wales, added: "We're delighted to publish this first Medr-funded collaboration between QAA and Estyn that aims to bring together a shared understanding of self-evaluation and improvement planning across the tertiary system in Wales. We’ve designed the site to give practical support to providers and delivery teams, and we look forward to adding case studies extra resources in the coming months."
