SYLVIE WATERHOUSE-REED
Academic Experience Student Executive
Leeds University Union
Sylvie Waterhouse-Reed is the Academic Experience Student Executive at Leeds University Union. In this role, her priorities are to strengthen and bring together academic communities, introduce more inclusive and decolonial teaching practices, and ensure students are getting the most value for money university experience. She also does a lot of work with the university around developing an AI strategy that supports students' cognitive development while also preparing them for life after university.
As a student, I've seen just how radically AI has shaped learning environments, and I recognise the speed that universities need to move at to keep up. Furthermore, I see the need for conscientious, student-centred discussions when it comes to this kind of decision making. As a part of the QAA Sector Advisory Group on Assessment Validity, Assuring Standards and AI, I hope to bring a valuable student perspective, that helps to shape AI policy in higher education in a way that ensures students can get the most out of university and that learning remains at the heart of their degrees.
