DR LOUISE DRUMM
Associate Professor in Digital Education
Edinburgh Napier University

Dr Louise Drumm is Associate Professor in Digital Education in the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement at Edinburgh Napier University. She is a sector leader in responsible and ethical approaches to generative AI in learning, teaching and assessment, and co-chairs the Scottish AI in Tertiary Education Network. Her work challenges technologically deterministic narratives surrounding generative AI in education, examining the assumptions and power relations shaping its adoption, and advocating for critical, pedagogically grounded and human-centred approaches.  She leads the MSc in Blended and Online Education and supervises PhD students in digital education.  She has worked in a number of universities in the UK as a learning technologist, academic developer, lecturer and software developer and her research interests include the relationship between digital education and theory, critical digital pedagogy, open education practices, feminist pedagogies, digital literacies and academic practice.

I am keen to contribute to this group as its focus aligns closely with work undertaken across the Scottish tertiary sector over the past few years, as well as my own research on critical and responsible approaches to generative AI in education. I can bring insights from the work and practice of colleagues in the Scottish AI in Tertiary Education Network (ScAITEN), where questions of assessment validity and standards have been explored alongside practical, enhancement-led and values-based approaches to generative AI.
