AMY SMITH
NUS-USI president
Queen's University Belfast

Amy Smith is NUS-USI president (National Union of Students–Union of Students in Ireland), taking up the role from July 2026. She was previously President of Queen's University Belfast Students' Union, where her work has focused on strengthening academic representation, securing cost-of-living support for students, and improving safety and support for international students. As NUS-USI President, her priorities include championing accessible education, tackling the cost-of-living crisis, and ensuring further education colleges have a stronger voice within the student movement. Amy was a panel member at the QAA NI Enhancement Conference 2026, contributing a student perspective on the challenges of AI in higher education.

During my time at QSU, I saw first-hand how decisions around quality can directly shape students’ learning experiences, opportunities and outcomes. As NUS-USI President, I wanted to bring that experience to the QAA Sector Advisory Group and ensure the student voice is at the heart of conversations about the future of higher education. Quality assurance should be about more than meeting standards; it should be about working together to ensure every student has an education that genuinely supports them to succeed and thrive.
