The Tertiary Quality Enhancement Framework (TQEF) comprises a shared set of principles, delivery mechanisms and outputs that can be applied to the different contexts of our colleges and universities to give assurance on academic standards, the quality of the student experience and ensure accountability for public investment in learning and teaching.

The TQEF will answer the question:

Is the provision delivered by Scotland’s colleges and universities of high quality and is it improving?

Much of QAA's work in Scotland relates to the TQEF delivery mechanisms. We manage Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER), and we meet with each institution annually through our Institutional Liaison Meetings (ILMs). We also manage Scotland's Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP) in partnership with College Development Network (CDN).

For more information about the TQEF, its principles, delivery mechanisms and outputs, please visit the Scottish Funding Council's TQEF webpage:

Scotland’s Tertiary Enhancement Programme (STEP)

We manage this innovative national enhancement programme for Scotland’s tertiary sector in partnership with CDN.

Institution-led Quality Review

Institutions in Scotland carry out internal subject reviews. Outcome reports are sent to the Scottish Funding Council with analyses by QAA

Student engagement

Student partnership is at the heart of the TQEF. QAA works with sparqs to support the the student voice in all aspects of the TQEF.
