Tertiary Quality Project
QAA is delighted to have been commissioned by the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) to lead key areas of Scotland’s Tertiary Quality Project (TQP). The TQP involves the development and delivery of a common approach to assuring and enhancing quality in Scotland’s tertiary sector from academic year 2024-25.
We are leading on two important project workstreams in collaboration with the SFC, sector agencies, and staff and students from Scotland’s colleges and universities.

Our current external review method is Tertiary Quality Enhancement Review (TQER).
The Tertiary Enhancement Topic is 'The future of learning and teaching: Defining and delivering an effective and inclusive digital/blended offering'.

QAA sponsors Herald Education Awards

Colleagues from the Quality Assurance Agency have taken part in 2025's Education Awards for Further and Higher Education run by Scotland's Herald newspaper. The awards are marking their tenth anniversary this year.
The awards ceremony took place at the Radisson Blu in Glasgow on Thursday 29 May.
QAA Scotland sponsored the award for Enhancing Student Learning and the Partnership award.
The former award recognises the work of a team in a college or university which has made a contribution to enhancing the student learning experience or academic skills.
This year's award for Enhancing Student Learning was won by a team from City of Glasgow College for their Inclusive Cross College Sports Development Project.
The Partnership award celebrates innovative collaborations between institutions which foster transformative impacts through strategic approaches designed to effect change and enhance the student experience.
This year's Partnership award was won by North East Scotland College and the National Energy Skills Accelerator for their work in 'Building Skills for a Just Energy Transition'.
The Further Education Institute of the Year was named as New College Lanarkshire, while Queen Margaret University was honoured as the High Education Institute of the Year.
"This was such a wonderful event, honouring the brilliant work of our colleagues across tertiary education in Scotland," said Debra Macfarlane, QAA's Director of Regulatory Services. "It's so inspiring to see the profound and impactful commitment of Scottish colleges and universities to enhancing the experience and achievements of their students. It's a real joy for us at QAA to be involved in celebrating all of this."
