Call for expressions of interest for two projects: Views of graduate skills

Date: 28/11/2018

With the apprenticeships and skills work high on the agenda across the sector, Focus On: Graduate Skills is relevant and timely, and will run during session 2018-19. As part of this work, we invite individuals and groups to submit expressions of interest to be considered to produce two pieces of written work on the views of current student and employers and graduates on the graduate skills.

Project 1: Students’ views on graduate skills

The aim of this project is to analyse the views of current students on the skills they are developing through their studies at higher education institutions in Scotland, addressing the following questions:

  • What do current students think their institution is doing well, and where could it do better?
  • What digital skills do current students feel they are developing through their studies, and are there differences in these views across different disciplines and subject areas?
  • Do current students feel that their institution ensures that all students (irrespective of background and different characteristics) are able to access the full range of skills development opportunities offered in higher education?
  • Are current students confident that they are developing the skills required to live and work in a global society?

Project 2: Employers’ and graduates’ views of graduate skills

The aim of this project is to analyse the views of employers and graduates on the skills developed by students at higher education institutions in Scotland, addressing the following questions:

  • What is the sector doing well, and where could it do better?
  • How is the sector ensuring that appropriate digital skills are developed by graduates in all disciplines and subject areas?
  • How is the sector ensuring that all students (irrespective of background and different characteristics) are able to access the full range of skills development opportunities offered in higher education?
  • How is the sector ensuring that graduates are equipped to live and work in a global society?
