The Scottish Quality Enhancement Arrangements that succeed QAA’s previous external review method (Enhancement-led Institutional Review – ELIR) are currently in development.

Following sector consultation in the 2021-22 academic session, Phase 1 - comprising Quality Enhancement and Standards Review (QESR) and Institutional Liaison Meetings (ILM) - will operate for the period 2022-24.

During 2022-23, QAA Scotland will consult with the sector and other key stakeholders, including the Scottish Funding Council (SFC) and student partnerships in quality Scotland (sparqs), on the development of Phase 2 of the method, which is intended to commence in the academic year 2024-25 to coincide with the anticipated implementation of SFC’s Tertiary Quality Framework.
