Feedback summary for Quality Code review published

Date: April 26 - 2023

QAA has published a summary of feedback from QAA Members and other sector bodies on what a revised UK Quality Code for Higher Education (the Quality Code) might look like.

The feedback was gathered as part of a commitment undertaken in July 2022 to hold a UK sector-wide conversation about the future scope and structure of the Quality Code.

The feedback has offered insight into:

  • an enhancement ethos for the Quality Code
  • how the Quality Code is used across the UK nations
  • revising the Core practices within the Quality Code
  • whether to formally include tertiary education in the Quality Code
  • how the Quality Code is used on a day-to-day basis.

The third and current iteration of the Quality Code was published in 2018. It was designed with the sector to protect the public and student interest, to enable institutions across the UK to understand what is expected of them and what to expect of each other, and champion UK higher education's world-leading reputation for quality. However, since 2018, there have been significant changes to the regulatory structures of higher education across the UK.

This presents an opportunity to review and consider the direction, structure, content and presentation of a future Quality Code to ensure it remains valued and useful to the sector across the UK, as well as supporting the international reputation of UK higher education.

The summary of feedback, along with further information about the development of the Quality Code, is available on our website.
