At the heart of QAA Membership is the Core Membership package. This includes the essential elements that all UK higher education providers need to deliver high-quality outcomes for their students and ensure that UK higher education maintains its reputation for excellence.
We work jointly with all our members and partners across the UK, sharing learning from devolved nations and international partners, supporting new ideas and models for innovation, and providing opportunities to network and share practice.
The 2020-21 membership year has an overarching theme - Resilience, Innovation, Enhancement - helping to develop organisational resilience through innovative approaches to quality assurance and enhancement.
Core Members benefit from the membership outputs resulting from our work under the overarching theme, across five interest areas. These include:
- key documents on UK standards and frameworks and their updates including the development of Subject Benchmark Statements
- QAA’s expert voice on quality and standards and its liaison with governments, regulators and funding bodies
- conferences, opportunities for networking, and enhancement partnerships
- new research
- practical guidance and toolkits
- continued expansion of international partnerships with overseas quality agencies and governments to build trust in UK higher education.
Core Members also benefit from the core activities that cut across the annual areas of interest. These include:
Staff development - opportunities for all staff with a direct or indirect responsibility for quality assurance and enhancement at member institutions, helping to keep knowledge and skills relevant and current.
Briefings - a horizon scanning function, providing updates on emerging policy, global trends and issues, and the implications for quality assurance and enhancement; outputs include termly written briefings on topical issues and monthly headline webinars.
Quality clinics - dedicated online clinics providing members with direct access to QAA Quality and Standards specialists.
Networking events - opportunities to meet with UK higher education quality professionals, from both academic and professional services backgrounds, to share innovative approaches, develop knowledge and benefit from the expert guidance of QAA’s team, building strong communities of practice across the UK.
Access to HE Diploma - promotion and development of the Access to HE Diploma, which brings more than 23,000 students into higher education each year, many from under-represented groups, improving routes to higher education.
PSRB engagement - regular forum events, strengthening engagement with PSRBs across the higher education sector.
