The Mauritian Government wishes to transform Mauritius into a knowledge-based economy. In seeking to realise this ambition, the Government is committed to expanding access to high quality learning opportunities and to strengthening research, development and innovation in the tertiary education sector.
With this in mind, QAA has been invited by the Government to conduct an audit of tertiary education institutions in Mauritius.
This important project, jointly funded by the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the Government of Mauritius, is intended to inform the future development of the tertiary education sector and the quality assurance framework within which tertiary education institutions operate in Mauritius.
The audit includes an online audit of tertiary education institutions in October 2014. Institutional responses will be considered in November and December and eight institutions will be visited for audit sampling purposes in January 2015.
The audit will consider how tertiary education institutions secure academic standards and assure the quality of students’ learning opportunities, whilst also ensuring that students are well-informed about what they should expect. It will also consider the effectiveness of the regulatory and quality assurance framework and the extent to which the framework is fit for purpose.
With this in mind we would very much like to hear about your interactions with the Tertiary Education Commission and the Mauritian Qualifications Authority, and would welcome your views on the framework within which tertiary education institutions in Mauritius are required to operate.
The deadline for the institutional online audit is Wednesday 15 October 2014. You should upload additional and supporting information requested by Friday 31 October 2014 (instructions on how to do this were provided at the briefing event held in Mauritius on 29 September 2014).
QAA also invites students to complete a survey on their experience of tertiary education institutions in Mauritius. The deadline for receipt of completed student questionnaires is Friday 31 October 2014.
