Annual Liaison Conference 2010
The changing nature of HE: implications for quality assurance

Friday 2 July 2010 - Woburn House, London

New approaches to quality assurance in a changing sector, and the important role of QAA in maintaining public trust in higher education were discussed at QAA's Annual Liaison Conference, held in London on Friday 2 July.

Now in its sixth year, the Annual Liaison Conference provided an opportunity for over 60 representatives from subscribing higher education institutions to meet and discuss quality assurance issues with officers at QAA.

Jayne Mitchell, QAA's Director of Development and Enhancement, welcomed delegates to the event with a presentation on the challenges and opportunities that the sector faces in changing times.

Delegates were given an update on areas of external development, including the evaluation of the Academic Infrastructure.

Breakout group discussions were introduced by QAA's Director of Reviews Stephen Jackson, and allowed colleagues to share ideas and new approaches for quality assurance in a changing environment. Phil Cardew, Pro-Vice Chancellor of London South Bank University, chaired the final plenary session. A key message from the breakout discussions was the need for QAA to take a greater role on behalf of the sector to explain and reassure the public about quality and standards in higher education.
