Review of Transnational Education in the Caribbean

In 2014, QAA conducted a Review of Transnational Education (TNE) in the Caribbean. This review looked at UK universities that deliver distance learning online and in partnership with a local support centre, as well as other partnership arrangements where a UK university is the awarding institution. The findings of the review are published as quality assurance reports on six individual partnerships, case studies on four UK institutions, and an overview report.

Overview report

An overview report provides a summary of TNE and higher education in the Caribbean, as well as statistics and executive summaries of the six review reports and the four case studies.

Case studies: Managing large-scale TNE delivered by distance learning

Following its review of TNE in the Caribbean in 2014, QAA has compiled a set of four case studies exploring the different approaches taken by four UK institutions to developing and managing large-scale TNE, delivered by distance learning. Each case study provides an account of the institution’s general TNE model as well as Caribbean-specific provision.

The case studies focus on the following institutions:

  • Heriot-Watt University
  • Oxford Brookes University and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
  • University of Liverpool and Laureate Online
  • University of London International Programmes
