QAA is responsible for the recognition and regulation of Access to HE Diplomas. We are also responsible for licensing Access Validating Agencies (AVAs), the awarding bodies that approve/validate Access to HE courses.

To support this work, we are looking to recruit three members to our Access Recognition and Licensing Committee (ARLC) in the following areas:

  • one member from the further education sector - with appropriate experience and understanding of Access to HE
  • two other members - with appropriate experience of the work of the ARLC, who may come from further or higher education, or who may have other experience that is relevant to the work of the ARLC.

About the ARLC

The ARLC is a committee of the QAA Board. It receives reports on AVA monitoring activity and makes recommendations about the award and withdrawal of AVA licences, and advises on major developments in other areas of QAA's Access to HE activities.

ARLC members jointly hold the knowledge and expertise needed for the ARLC to carry out its remit effectively. ARLC members also bring independence of mind and a wider perspective to ARLC deliberations, bringing their experience to bear in making impartial judgements. Terms and conditions

The ARLC normally meets three times a year, with meetings held in either Gloucester or London.

ARLC members receive no remuneration. Reasonable and properly documented expenses incurred in the performance of members' duties will be reimbursed in line with QAA's policies.

ARLC members are appointed by the Board for a term of three years, renewable for one additional term. ARLC members are expected to work in the spirit of the expectations, duties and standards that apply to QAA's directors/trustees, which are set out in the Code of Best Practice for Members of the QAA Board, available below.
