QAA’s institutional liaison scheme

About the scheme

QAA’s liaison scheme provides an opportunity for subscribing institutions to interact with QAA outside of audit and review. Each institution is provided with a QAA liaison officer who acts as a primary point of contact. This officer is available to answer questions and enquiries, discuss matters of mutual interest and, where appropriate, share information.

The scheme is built around a number of principles:

  • it is flexible and the frequency and nature of interactions are based on the needs of the institution. (Liaison officers will usually visit institutions at least once a year)
  •  it is separate from the review function of QAA. The scheme is intended to cover matters outside the individual institution’s formal interactions with QAA
  • records of matters discussed as part of the liaison scheme are stored confidentially and are not used to inform any of QAA’s review activity
  • the relationship between the QAA Assistant Director managing an audit and the QAA liaison officer for an institution will follow principles similar to those for managing sensitive information (see the ‘Briefing paper for higher education institutions’ below for details).

We also use the scheme to conduct surveys, most recently on quality enhancement and employer-responsive provision, which have fed into recent QAA conferences.
