Guidance and criteria

​​​​​All applications for degree awarding powers in the UK must be in accordance with the relevant Guidance, and must be supported by a critical self-analysis and other specified documentary evidence.

The Guidance sets out the criteria that applicants must meet and provides information on the legal context and other prerequisites. The particular Guidance that is applicable depends on the type of powers you seek and where in the UK you are located.

Applicants in England

Guidance and templates for FDAP

Applicants for foundation degree awarding powers (FDAP) must meet the
October 2015 Guidance (gov.uk website​, opens in new window). They are also encouraged to refer to our guidance on scholarshi​p and the pedagogical effectiveness of staff.

Having applied through HEFCE and been allocated a QAA SharePoint site, applicants will be asked to upload their critical self-analysis and evidence along with the following completed templates.

Applicants for taught degree awarding powers (TDAP) must meet the
September 2015 Guidance (gov.uk website, opens in new window). They are also encouraged to refer to our guidance on scholarship and the pedagogical effectiveness of staff.

Having applied through HEFCE and been allocated a QAA SharePoint site, applicants will be asked to upload their critical self-analysis and evidence along with the following completed templates.
