Anthony McClaran started his professional career in the central administration at the University of Warwick, working for seven years in a variety of roles, latterly as Senior Assistant Registrar. He was appointed Academic Registrar at the University of Hull in 1992 and in 1995 became Acting Registrar.
In the same year, Anthony joined UCAS as Head of the Academic Services and Development Department, and was promoted to Deputy Chief Executive in 1996. Six years later he was appointed Chief Executive at UCAS, a post he held for over five years before taking up the role of Chief Executive at QAA on 1 October 2009. Anthony served for eight years on the Council of the University of Gloucestershire and was Chair from September 2007 until July 2009. He has also served on a number of committees including the Widening Participation Strategic Committee at the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Aim Higher National Partnership Board and the Higher Education Engagement Project Board for 14-19 Reform at the Department for Children, Schools and Families. He is a director of the Inspiring Futures Foundation, and has served on the governing bodies of the National Star College and three schools.
Chief Executive's Group
The Group is responsible for carrying out a wide range of activities including supporting the work of the Chief Executive, managing corporate affairs including supporting the Board, and co-ordinating international collaboration activity. The Group includes the Chief Executive, Assistant Directors, Development Officers and support staff.
