QAA is now looking to make two key appointments to ACDAP who will bring specific experience as either an employer of graduates or from encouraging competition in industry or another sector of society.
QAA provides guidance on applications from higher education providers for degree awarding powers through its Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers (ACDAP). The Committee receives and gives preliminary consideration to applications and determines whether applicants have made a case to proceed to detailed scrutiny. On the basis of detailed scrutiny reports, ACDAP then makes recommendations to the QAA Board on the confidential advice to be given to ministers, including its view on whether applicants have met the criteria for the powers applied for.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate strategic leadership and governance experience at a senior level in the private or public sector and a readiness to accept the duties and responsibilities of ACDAP membership. Applicants must also have an understanding of the range of stakeholder interests in, and of the challenges and changes facing higher education in the UK. Alongside a demonstrable appreciation of the increasingly diverse contexts (political, social, and financial) within which academic standards and quality in higher education are managed.
