Employer-responsive provision survey: A reflective report - read the report.

During spring 2009, QAA undertook a project through its Institutional and Subject Centre Liaison Schemes to explore the extent and perceptions of employer-responsive provision among institutions in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. The findings of the project are detailed in a reflective report, published by QAA in February 2010.

We know that employers need to understand what they can expect from today’s graduates. Universities are free to design and monitor their own courses, but they do so within a nationally recognised framework setting out agreed expectations. Our role is to safeguard quality and standards and to support further improvements (known as 'enhancement') in higher education. We review and report on institutions and promote good practice. Find out more about how we do this.

Getting employers involved

The term for getting employers involved in higher education is 'employer engagement'. More formally, this means a cooperation or collaboration between employers and the higher education sector in developing qualifications that meet both academic needs and the practical needs of business and industry. For an overview of employer engagement see page 19 of this bulletin.

QAA has published a statement on our own work with employers, which concentrates on the quality assurance of work-based and work-related learning.
