Developmental Review was introduced in 2007-08 as a method of reviewing further education institutions delivering directly funded higher education in Wales. From 2010-11, Summative Review, which builds on Developmental review, is also being introduced.

The handbooks include details on how the process works, guidelines for producing the reflective statement and portfolio of evidence.
