The Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers (ACDAP) considers applications for degree awarding powers and/or university title (DAP/UT). In support of this work it oversees the criteria and scrutiny processes used to assess applications, and makes recommendations to the QAA Board to inform the nature of QAA's confidential advice to ministers.
Structure
ACDAP comprises 14 members, at least three of whom are also members of the QAA Board. The Chair of ACDAP is the Chair of the QAA Board. Membership is structured to ensure that, in addition to the Chair, ACDAP includes:
- three Vice-Chancellors, including at least one head of a pre-1992 university and one head of a post-1992 university
- one head of a non-university higher education institution
- three senior members of higher education institutions (Pro Vice-Chancellors or equivalent)
- two other persons with experience of employment sectors that are significant recruiters of graduates
- representation from the private higher education sector.
The membership is structured to include one member from a Scottish higher education institution, one member from a Welsh institution and one member with experience of healthcare disciplines. The Chief Executive of QAA is also a member of the Committee.
In addition, ACDAP invites appropriate observers from:
- the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills
- the Welsh Government Department for Education and Skills
- the Scottish Government Directorate for Employability, Skills and Lifelong Learning
- the Northern Ireland Government Department for Employment and Learning
- QAA (normally the Director of Reviews).
The Secretary to ACDAP is the Head of Degree Awarding Powers and University Title at QAA.

Appointment and service
Members are invited to serve on ACDAP for three years in the first instance, and may be reappointed for a further period of three years. All appointments and re-appointments are made by the QAA Board.
